• Concerns over physical safety of Boots Pharmacists as security reduced.

  Pharmacists at Boots midnight stores are raising concerns at work after local management have decided to reduce the level of security cover in some stores. The winter season brings darker evenings and increased numbers of shoppers and potentially increased numbers of shoplifters.  

• New senior appointment at Boots – does this herald a positive era for employee relations?

  Boots have announced that they have appointed Tracey Clements as Chief Operating Officer. Tracey is currently an executive at the retail giant Tesco. Pharmacists will be hopeful that this new appointment will bring a fresh perspective to employees’ rights at work. 

• Boots Pharmacists: February Ballot is a chance to raise thousands for charity

  A second ballot of pharmacists at Boots relating to the trade union recognition arrangements at the company will bring with it another opportunity for charity fundraising, as the PDA Union have confirmed they will once again give £1 to charity for each vote cast in the ballot, regardless of which way Boots pharmacist and pre-registration pharmacists vote. 

• Boots trainee pharmacists (called pre-reg until end of summer 2021) urged to participate in upcoming ballot

  Trainee pharmacists (called pre-reg until end of summer 2021) employed at Boots are being encouraged to join the PDA Union and become part of the only independent UK trade union that is exclusively for pharmacists and trainee pharmacists; the great news for trainee pharmacists is membership is completely FREE. 

• Why is Boots so concerned the PDA Union will see what’s in its staffing model?

  In a recently published decision of the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) following a complaint about Boots made by the BBC, the company has robustly defended its refusal to release its staffing model. One reason given was that it might be used by the PDA Union in support of the application currently being made on behalf of thousands of Boots pharmacists who are seeking an independent voice at work.

  The PDA Union have recently seen the judgement of a Scottish Employment Tribunal where a trainee pharmacy technician at Boots was constructively dismissed after being given a final written warning. This was despite DISPROVING an allegation made in a customer complaint that she had breached confidentiality.

• Date set for historic second ballot at Boots

  The PDA Union have negotiated the arrangements for a ballot of pharmacists and pre-registration pharmacists which can finally secure them an independent voice at work. The ballot period will run for five weeks from Monday 4 February 2019
