  The PDA Union and Boots have released their first joint statement as they begin a new chapter in employee relations for pharmacists at the company.  

• Pillbox Chemists Ltd: Unlawful deduction from an employees’ wages

  Pillbox Chemists Ltd made an unlawful deduction from an employees' wages by failing to pay him wages from 1 March 2018 to 13 March 2018. This resulted in the Judge ordering Pillbox Chemists Lt to pay the employee the sum of £478.20 in respect of this unlawful deduction. 

• Wallgreens Boots Alliance have “most difficult quarter” of trading

  Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA) has warned that it may be forced to close stores and cut jobs in the UK after suffering the “most difficult quarter” since its formation via merger in 2014, even though the vertically integrated multinational is still making £Billions in profits. The PDA Union will be supporting any members affected by the consequences of this announcement. 

• PDA releases patient safety survey results (2015 to 2018)

  The PDA has published the results of three patient safety surveys undertaken over the last three years, including the latest results which directly compare the experience of pharmacists to the basic standards detailed in the Safer Pharmacies Charter. 

• Boots campaign features in the latest Unions 21 podcast

  In the latest podcast from Unions 21, Becky Wright and Simon Sapper talk union recognition with Paul Day of the PDA Union and hear all about how Boots' senior management denied their pharmacists an independent voice at work for eight years and how, by never giving up, the PDAU changed that.  

• PDA Union representatives will listen to all Boots pharmacists and trainee pharmacists (called pre-reg until end of summer 2021)

  PDA Union asking all Boots pharmacists to let them know what should be made better at work and reiterating PDA Union representatives will act in the interests of the entire profession when they negotiate for all registered and trainee pharmacist (called pre-reg until end of summer 2021) store-based pharmacists at levels 5, 6 and 7.

• Northern Ireland Healthcare Award winners 2019 revealed

  The 20th Northern Ireland Healthcare Awards took place at Belfast’s Europa Hotel last month and coincided with the 2019 Northern Ireland Pharmacy Conference which took place that afternoon in partnership with the PDA.  

• PDAU say change of law needed on sweetheart union derecognition

  The PDA Union have just won a recognition ballot which ended with an overwhelming win for the union, but say they believe the law on the overall process relating to derecognising a sweetheart union needs to be improved. 

• Pharmacists invite Boots to start new chapter in employee relations

  John Murphy, General Secretary of the PDA Union has written to Boots head Seb James, inviting him to create a new, positive chapter in employee relations at the company.
