PDA releases improved membership renewal process

As part of the PDA’s continuous support for pharmacists, it has launched a newly improved membership renewal process. This will make it easier for existing members to continue their membership of the PDA and receive the associated benefits.

Improved renewal process

Renewing PDA membership has never been simpler! With the PDA’s new and improved renewal platform, members can enjoy a seamless experience from start to finish. If there are no changes to an existing PDA member’s membership category and indemnity requirements, they can renew in just a few clicks, saving time and effort.

Flexible payment option

The PDA understands that financial flexibility matters. That’s why the PDA has introduced easier payment options to support its members. Members can pay online quickly with their credit/debit card or spread the cost with the monthly instalments option.

Go green with paperless membership

PDA members can now choose to receive their membership documents digitally or by post. Going paperless will help the PDA reduce waste, cut its eco footprint, and contribute to a more sustainable world.

PDA members who are due for renewal should do so as soon as possible to ensure they don’t miss out on any of the valuable benefits and services PDA membership provides, including:

  • Being able to handle unexpected challenges with expert support
  • Focusing on patients, knowing that the PDA is here to offer support

As a pharmacist, having continuous professional indemnity insurance is not just a necessity; it’s a professional requirement. This insurance protects you from claims for compensation that may arise due to professional mistakes or allegations, as well as defending you in any regulatory, criminal or employment disciplinary proceedings. If cover lapses, there is a risk of exposing oneself to financial and legal consequences, which could significantly impact a pharmacist’s career and reputation.

To avoid any disruption pharmacists must ensure that they’re fully protected. The PDA urges members to renew their membership today. In this way, members will also protect the retroactive date on their insurance certificate (which describes the date from which their continuous cover originally commences).

PDA membership benefits

With PDA membership, pharmacists get:

  • Professional indemnity & legal defence costs insurance*
  • Access to lawyers & experienced pharmacist advisors
  • PDA Union membership – representation if needed
  • Campaigning on pharmacists’ behalf to protect training quality and workplace conditions
  • Free training & events, including the PDA’s Emerging Leaders Programme via PDA Education
  • PDA Plus discounts to save you money on everyday spending
  • Opportunities to join humanitarian initiatives supporting those in crisis

*The insurance is arranged and administered by the Pharmacy Insurance Agency (PIA) on behalf of PDA members and is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

Supporting the profession’s charity

The PDA donates £1 for every member of the PDA to Pharmacist Support, the profession’s charity, each year, and this includes students and trainees, even though their PDA membership is entirely free. This now amounts to around £40,000 per year and is used to further support pharmacists, students, and trainees as the PDA works with the charity to develop support tools and resources. Pharmacists who want any advice or support don’t need to feel alone or isolated. They can contact the PDA Member Support Centre today for help. For further support, pharmacists can also visit the dedicated student or trainee pharmacist sections of the PDA’s website.

Get involved

The PDA does a lot more than defend its members. The PDA’s student, trainee and Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Networks allow pharmacists to get together with others who care about the issues affecting them. PDA Education also offers FREE training and development programmes relevant to each stage of pharmacy practice. With more than 40,000 members, the PDA is the UK’s largest pharmacist membership body where pharmacists can play their part to deliver a strong voice for members and shape the future of pharmacy.

As a PDA member, pharmacists can also get involved by becoming a PDA Rep and play a key role in supporting and networking with other reps to shape the future of pharmacy. Those interested can find out how they can become a PDA Rep here.
