Concerns over proposed PSNI premises standards – which include provision for MUR targeting

The PDA has responded to the PSNI's consultation on draft new premises standards for registered pharmacies, saying that they appear to be a significant retrograde step and expressing concerns that the PSNI may be following in the GPhC's footsteps in its approach to pharmacy premises regulation. The standards provide for MUR targeting by employers, calling the number of MURs a "patient outcome" - which was challenged by the PDA.

Deregulation of support staff training and unenforceable guidance – risks to patients

The GPhC consulted from 20 July to 11 October 2017 on proposed guidance for pharmacy owners on creating suitable working environments which enable pharmacy staff to operate safely and effectively. The PDA responded to the consultation, expressing its concerns.

PDA Criticizes GPhC Revalidation Proposals

The PDA has said it believes the framework recently proposed by the GPhC does not constitute revalidation, for various reasons including an insufficiently rigorous process and the lack of formal appraisal by a senior pharmacist. We believe that the proposed framework should instead be referred to as CPD.

GPhC revising threshold criteria for fitness to practise referral

When a complaint is made to the GPhC about a registrant, it uses “threshold criteria” to decide whether to refer the matter to the investigating committee, who in turn decide whether to refer to the fitness to practise committee. The GPhC consulted on proposed new criteria to replace the existing.
