The one‑hour session created a safe and supportive space for LGBT+ network members to reflect on their lived experiences, inside and outside the workplace. Participants discussed the realities of practising as LGBT+ people in pharmacy, highlighting examples of inclusive practice, positive patient interactions, workplace challenges, and the importance of visible support structures such as staff networks.
PDA LGBT+ Network President Adam Somerville said, “It was a pleasure to hear the experiences of our members including their personal and professional journeys. We discussed the importance of visibility and representation within the sector, and how we can positively influence change. We encourage members to continue to share their experiences within the network and discuss these points with friends and colleagues.”
The network committee expressed gratitude to all who attended and contributed. They highlighted that events like this strengthen the community, support wellbeing, and help shape future activity aimed at fostering inclusion across the profession.
Paul Flynn, PDA National Officer for Scotland and locum pharmacist, attended the event as an ally, he said, “I found the event really informative. It’s so important to increase your understanding of issues to increase empathy and help to make you a better practitioner. We are all limited by our own narrow understanding and lived experience; the more we know of and hear about the experiences of others, the more empowered we are to be able to create a healthy and just culture for all.”
The PDA LGBT+ Network continues to grow, offering members a confidential and welcoming space to share experiences, connect with peers, and contribute to positive change in pharmacy. Those interested in joining or learning more about upcoming initiatives are encouraged to engage with the network and take part in future events.
